I created five pieces of line drawings based on my daily routes to class every week. Each drawing represents one weekday. I was attracted to the notion of seeing from above from the essay “Walk in the City” by Michel de Certeau. From an aloof, almost god-like perspective, pedestrians on the streets are unconsciously contributing to the creation of the city both physically and philosophically with their movements and interactions with the architectures. Thus, I decided to use Google Maps to trace down my daily routes to school from an aero-view. As I walk to different classes at varied locations, I am unconsciously creating a line, the movement of a point. I then simplify the lines into abstract drawings to convert my behaviors into purely aesthetic patterns.
