Line Artist Statement
Every work of art has a meaning embedded within its soul, no matter how important one’s message is, it is quite important to take someone’s ‘individuality’ into consideration. Certeau presses upon the fact that art helps unto transform a human multiplicity into a disciplinary society. ‘The law of being, and the law of place’.Art binds us all together as individuals. In his text one of the most interesting observations to marvel at were how he gracefully compare one’s walking to ‘linguistic formations’ This is where I found inspiration, and decided to base my artwork on ‘individuality’ and ‘uniqueness’. “To practice space is thus to repeat the joyful and silent experience of childhood.”
News Project Response
All three artists have defined the word ‘visual imagery’ in their own unique terms, however their artwork has one thing in common: means of newspaper. By incorporating their artwork, and reproducing newspapers into their own versions fascinated me as a budding artist and inspired me to create my own individual artwork. Similar to theirs, my newspaper project is defined by ‘visual imagery’ where I have used quotes from Mahatma Gandhi to establish world peace, and have given ‘news’ a whole different meaning by the use of coloured tapes to form a compass. After hearing this audio, I also learnt to sequence my artwork well, and to ensure that each piece had their own story to portray in order to avoid monotony. I learnt to reproduce newspapers into artistic posters and texts, and I thoroughly enjoyed working and manipulating with the news, to create this project.
Glendalys Medina Artwork
Medina’s work concentrates on uniqueness and individuality. Some instances of her most prominent work which I found intriguing were: Her way of mimicking graffiti of another artist in order to inspire herself and define her own style. She also created a visual diary named ‘Dear Me’ in the year 2012, which was inspired by Drake and his love for confidence. In that experiment she had locked herself up in box and was able to recite a poem to all the visitors. The box was not lit, which allowed Medina to able to interact with herself, only through the sense of touch. Some techniques of reaffirmation which has really helped me ever since our class has been ‘I have to last.’ ‘ How do I use my voice.’ Looking at Medina’s work, and having the opportunity to work with her, has by been one of my best experiences. I wish to create work that portrays uniqueness, and at the same time connect with the audience of the world. For my work, I was able to trace down marine animals, inspired by the movies ‘Finding Nemo’ and ‘Finding Dory.’ I wanted to portray uniqueness by tracing and forming patterns out of my favourite creatures, and pass time : scuba diving. But also at the same time, I wish to create awareness in a drive to save and protect these endangered species of the ocean and be able to connect to the ‘audience of the world.’
Colour Writing
The image is used for my colour theme was of a firework. Launched and packed with different hues and pattern, this firework represents our soul ready to take off. The vibrancy of the orange embodies the spirit of warmth, playfulness and energy. The colour gradient shifts slowly from the darkest rust brown to a dynamic yellow. I would like to compare this colour gradient to the shift from darkness to light. The image which was clicked on the festival of lights: Diwali, holds the true spirit of light taking over darkness. Hence I manipulated my gradient in such a way, that it shifts from dark to light in a gradual manner. “Orange is an interloper,” Munsell declared in 1906, “and destroys balance.” My father is fond of bursting crackers with my sister. I, on the other hand, stay behind the lens to capture the beginning of something incredible. This was exactly how I was able to capture this moment of a cracker taking flight. Our soul, similar to the firecracker is packed with so much energy, so much potential that it is necessary for us to let go sometimes. In order to grow, it is important to let go as well. Just like the cracker lets loose, and launches itself into the moonlit sky, I believe for us to prosper it is imperative for our souls as well to launch and let loose into the world, only to find ourselves back, better and wiser.
3D Project
For my 3D Project I decided to document my favoruite snack: Snickers chocolate bar. Whenever I feel low, or feel the need to cheer up, this chocolate bar is my go to! Afterall who doesn't like to just sit down, take a break from the hectic schedule and take a bit out of their favourite snacks. I faced a lot of difficuly in shooting my model, and putting it all together on Metshape, however I kept re-shooting and tons of practice, allowed me to bring to you a successful 3D model.
